Qatar Announced to Issue New identity card for resident called Qatar Smart ID card like emirates ID.n an effort to streamline Qatar’s visa system for expats, the Ministry of Interior today announced a series of measures that puts more emphasis on identity cards while minimizing the use of passports for identification.Instead, residents will be given new ID cards, which will have more information on them than the existing ones – including an individual’s home address.
For the first time, children under the age of 16 years old will also be issued ID cards.Officials said that beginning June 15, new residents and those renewing their residency permits (RPs) would no longer need to have stickers in their passports explaining their visa details.

Application Process
Follow these steps to apply:
- Visit the office for e-Gate Cards.
- Show your ID or GCC passport.
- Pay appropriate fees.
- One year: QR200
- Two years: QR250
- Three years: QR300
Have your photo taken at a booth, and fingerprint both your hands. (Immigration staff will assist you)
Get in line to get a token number and wait for it to be called.
When you're called, go to the counter. Tell them you did your fingerprinting on the system and request for the Smart ID for one or two or three years. You can pay for the e-Gate card/Smart ID for up to 3 years.
Immigration will then swap your Qatari ID for a chipped ID card. With this e-Card (Samrt ID) you should be able to skip immigration and passport control and use the e-Gate, as long as you have your exit permit.
